As mentioned in the previous article, it is not easy to be organised, as many different requirements have to be fulfilled before it can be achieved. In this article, I will be further expanding on this topic, talking about why one should even consider trying to be organised.
A. Being organised acts as a means for achieving our goals
Being organised can be a great way to ensure a higher probability of success in our goals and aims. With greater organisation comes less clutter, both physically and psychologically, and with lesser clutter, it brings clarity to the tasks at hand. This makes it easier for us to complete our tasks as we are likely to be much more disciplined when we are in a clearer state of mind, able to focus on what is most important at the moment instead of having to look at messy clothes, mentally rewind funny TikToks(you know what I mean) etc.
B. Being organised is very fulfilling
Being organised can be a very fulfilling process, since it can make one feel happier and more relaxed. It was found in a study published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin that people whose environments were disorganised were more depressed, fatigued and had higher levels of the stress hormone Cortisol than those whose environments were organised. For me, I find this to be largely true, as coming home to a clean and organised home, logging into my computer with a organised desktop etc., is all very therapeutic, especially when one has had a tough day. Moreover, in the process of organisation, it is very calming and reassuring to be able to know that you do not have to deal with the burden of choice, which is really evident in those days where we suddenly have a chunk of free time just open up on our schedules, and we find that it requires great effort to shape free time into something that is enjoyable for us.
C. Being organised is a tool for growth
Being organised can also be a tool for growth. This is one of the subtle impacts of being organised, yet one of the most impactful ones. In the previous article, I talked about how organisation is more of a state of mind. This is what enables the personal growth aspect of organisation, as being composed mentally allows the space for us to think more critically about the things that matter to us, and in this context, it will allow individuals to be able to think with more critically about their actions and their goals and reframe their perspectives about the things and people around them.
However, this is not to say that organisation can be the panacea for all things regarding self-development, as there are still many other factors that can allow for personal growth which is not just limited to one being organised. Therefore I can only say with certainty that organisation can galvanise or further personal growth, but whether it can drive it will depend largely on how well it is applied in a user’s life.
In my opinion, being organised should be a key part of everyone’s lives, since it is able to help us in achieving goals, make us happier, and most importantly, aid in the process of self growth. This is very important for people in today’s society, who are burdened by the massive influx of information in their lives due to the rapid development of the Internet and various technologies which has generated a lot of clutter in their lives. It is hence important to clear up the clutter we have in our lives and allow ourselves to improve in any and all ways possible.
Do take note, I am by no means an expert in this field, but I believe strongly that it is not fair that I should not let my opinions on this matter be known, since it may be helpful to some individuals out there.
