Being organised is not something that is innate, it can only be achieved through hard work, through the cultivation of healthy habits which all take time to acquire.
A. Why do you need to be organised?
The first step of this process would be to question yourself why you would even want to be organised. This could be for a multitude of reasons, from the generic organisation is key to success to a more personal perspective such as organisation can help in self-development. All of these reasons would better lead you on the path of organisation as having something to work towards makes it just that bit easier in achieving it. In addition, the realisation that you would be missing an opportunity/losing your place if you do not meet your goal, can act as a motivator for further progress and success in you being organised.
B. The most important aspect of being organised?
The most important aspect of being organised would be to realise that we have limitations. The jarring issue with many “disorganised” individuals in modern society would be their inability to prioritise the things, thoughts they have. This encourages procrastination, which is the bane of any and all organisation endeavours. Having our plates full of endless tasks, thoughts to sieve through renders us completely helpless, insinuating our apparent lack of ability.
Therefore it is first important for us to be able to choose what is most important to us so that we are able to dedicate more time each task, and once that becomes habitual, it will not be a surprise to see ourselves becoming more organised as we are able to put in more effort in this endeavour.
C. Being organised is a state of mind, and is not something merely physical
I find that an erroneous assumption of one being organised is attributing it with how one presents themselves, whether they are dressed immaculately or not, whether they look professional. However, organisation does not only contain a physical perspective, it also contains an arguably more vital psychological perspective.
Being organised means that one is composed mentally, and being composed mentally can be independent of one’s surroundings. Even if you live in an environment that is cluttered, either due to you or those living around you, it does not mean that it is not possible to be organised. Sure, it would be easier to maintain organisation and harmony when your surroundings are as so too, but that should not discourage you from a goal of organisation. What’s important is to have the mentality that you want to be organised, and to think about what is at stake if you are not organised, before planning how you should go about achieving your goal
To be organised is no easy feat, due to the large amount of factors at play here, and the aforementioned talking points are just the few most important that I believe is part and parcel in a journey of change leading to organisation.
Do take note, I am by no means an expert in this field, but I believe strongly that it is not fair that I should not let my opinions on this matter be known, since it may be helpful to some individuals out there.
