With the advent of the “technological evolution”, it has introduced a new type of organisation that entails the sanctity of a human life. Why is this so, you may ask? The Internet, and any of its subsidiaries, have caused information, data to be splashed upon our lives. A simple Google search yields billions of possible results, endless scrolling actually exists, albeit in Instagram. There is just simply too much information to process, which means that it becomes a burden to sort through all of them, such that many people deciding to not even try to do so. Now, although most of the astronomical amount of information is just pure garbage, the presence of useful information is inevitable, which could turn out to be useful knowledge for us. Hence, therein lies the need for digital organisation, which I will be guiding you on how to achieve.
1. File Management
Unless you are a 6 year old reading this article(for some reason?), you probably have encountered some sort of digital file management organisation system. A ubiquitous example would be the File Explorer on Windows enabled computers, and for macOS users, it would be the Finder. The most basic organisation would lie in the desktop, which is what greets any user who logs in the computer. If you are someone who is not digitally organised, you would probably remember spending countless minutes trying to find a certain file that you needed to submit as homework, to send to a friend etc. Now that is nowhere near acceptable, as the ability to pull up any file with ease should be baked into every computer user, since it is so essential. So what can be done? Simply put, every user needs file management system, however simple. The simplest form of organisation would come in the folders, with different folders separating different types of folders. As one wants to become even more organised, further file management features could be explored, like subfolders, tags etc. It would be pointless to delve deeper into the more advanced organisation features, given that you do need to already obtain a certain degree of file organisation.
2. Notifications
I am sure that everyone remembers the feeling of excitement when your smartphone vibrates, and when you go to check it, you realise the notification is completely useless, so you sigh… Hence, there is a need to filter our notifications in such a way that we only receive the ones that are important and useful, so that we don’t get distracted. Now, many people do not know that notifications settings exist, but it is there, and arguably, one of the most useful features of a smart device. The simplest form of organisation would just be to turn all notifications off, but that actually can backfire, since no notifications means that we would be unable to access any single piece of information, important or not. Hence, there is a need for users to really alter the notification settings of every single app, analysing whether that app provides useful notifications or not, and if not, the notifications could be limited or even disabled.
Do take note, I am by no means an expert in this field, but I believe strongly that it is not fair that I should not let my opinions on this matter be known, since it may be helpful to some individuals out there.
